This year, the White House announced the complete event plan for the 2022 "Egg-education Roll", which means that this traditional event, which has been interrupted for two years due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, is about to officially return.
According to a statement issued by the White House, President Biden and First Lady Jill will personally host the White House "Easter Egg Roll" event on Monday, April 18. Jill, who has been a teacher for more than 30 years, set the theme of this year's event as "EGGucation". On the day of the event, the South Lawn of the White House will be transformed into a school community where children can enjoy fun-filled educational activities.
In addition to the time-honored traditions of "get out" and "beat eggs", this year's "egg roll" event will also have a school building activity area, a reading corner, a talent show, a rural experience, a photo area, a physical exercise area, and a cafeteria, etc. The whole event will be divided into 5 sessions, which will last from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm on Monday.
The White House expects about 30,000 people to participate in this year's "Easter Egg Roll", including thousands of military families and the crew and families of the US Navy submarine USS Delaware.
The White House tradition of hosting an "Easter Egg Roll" dates back to 1878 during the administration of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States. In 1918, the event was canceled due to food rationing regulations, and during World War II for safety reasons. In 2020, the Trump administration canceled the Easter event due to the new crown epidemic; in 2021, the White House after Biden took office also canceled this traditional event due to the epidemic.
In addition to restoring the tradition of the "Easter Egg Roll", the White House will gradually resume "free public visits" in a limited manner starting from April 15th, and the opening hours are from 8 am to 12 noon every Friday and Saturday 30 points, excluding federal holidays. Public applications are scheduled on a "first-come, first-served" basis and must be submitted through their local Member of Congress and their Congressional Tourism Coordinator.
According to past practice, the public needs to submit a request to visit the White House at least 21 days in advance, and no more than 90 days before the date of the requested visit. Any visit application outside the 21 to a 90-day window will not be accepted.
